Longton Showground

We are very fortunate to be one of only a few clubs in the UK that owns its own show field that includes a pavilion which, apart from the class entries desk and toilets, also provides plenty of seating areas where you can enjoy hot or cold food and drinks provided by our own kitchen.  Ample hard standing is provided for both horse boxes and trailers with a water tap nearby and separate car parking for spectators, so please, there is no need for parking on the road!

To get directions to the showground you can either access Google map by clicking onto 'Contact Us', full directions are listed below the map and also printed in the schedule, or by satnav using postcode PR26 8LX.  Because we are situated opposite Wymott and Garth Prison, if all else fails, just follow the signs for 'HM Prisons', you can't miss us.

Members benefits

Our members benefit from the provision of affordable training for both flatwork and show jumping plus regular practice evenings at the showground, where, for a nominal fee, all the facilities are available to be used.  Anyone becoming a member also becomes eligible for selection to represent us at Area Qualifiers and then hopefully go on to the National Championships.

Being an affilated club, our members are also have the benefit of being able to compete at other affiliated clubs at membership class entry rates (upon producing their membership cards), however they will not entitled to any points at those shows.

Further Information

Information on all the shows and classes are available in our schedule by clicking onto 'calendar' and then into 'schedule'.  More detailed information regarding qualifiers here, rules here.  Details of fund raising events are also available in our main schedule.

Our History and Achievements

Longton Riding Club was formed in 1956 and after holding its shows at various locations, in 1986 the present showground was purchased.  In 1964 Longton affiliated with the British Riding Club which is part of the British Horse Society and have had a presence at most of the Championships in the subsequent years. 2014 marks the 50th Anniversary of our affiliation to British Riding Club.

Many former members of Longton Riding Club have gone on to do great things such as Samantha Murray – London 2012 Olympics silver medallist in the Modern Pentathlon and Peter Murphy, an accredited British 3 Day Event Team Show Jumping Trainer, also competed at Longton and brought his two sons, Robert and Michael to the Riding Club as they were going up through the levels.

Longton benefits from having a tireless committee with a long serving Chairman, Mick Cookson who has been more than instrumental in the motivation of both the senior and junior membership.

"When I compete at LRC if I do something wrong the judges will tell me how to improve. Everyone is friendly and I have made new friends and I am looking forward to shows starting again."
